Faculty roundtable on health and wellbeing promotion at UBC

roundtable

As part of Thrive Week, faculty are invited to participate in a UBC faculty roundtable: Promoting health, wellbeing, and social sustainability through teaching, learning and research.

— Wednesday, November 4 | 12 Noon – 2 PM | BC Hydro Decision Theatre, CIRS (map)

The objectives of the event are to:

  1. engage UBC faculty in a vibrant discussion about wellbeing;
  2. share current teaching, learning, and research practices;
  3. facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration; and
  4. capture faculty priorities to bring forward to UBC leadership to inform the University’s priorities moving forward.

The Okanagan Charter, an outcome of the 2015 International Conference on Health Promoting Universities and Colleges / VII International Congress, signals a challenge to universities and colleges to create healthier, happier, and more sustainable campus communities (link).

“Health promoting universities and colleges transform the health and sustainability of our current and future societies, strengthen communities and contribute to the well-being of people, places and the planet.” (Okanagan Charter, 2015)

How will UBC respond to this challenge through its teaching, research and operations?

This event is being organized by a newly formed Faculty Wellbeing Cohort (all faculty welcome), created to explore the link between faculty and wellbeing and support faculty member initiatives (blogs.ubc.ca/facultywellness). The format consists of short ‘data blitz’ presentations by fellow faculty followed by roundtable discussions on the themes of “What is happening at UBC?”, “Research”, and “Teaching Practice”. Outcomes will be presented at an upcoming leadership meeting at UBC.

All faculty members at UBC are invited to attend. Staff and TAs are also welcome.

A light lunch will be provided from 11:45 AM onwards.

Please RSVP by Monday, November 2 at https://survey.ubc.ca/s/thriving_faculty_workshop/
