Registration is now open for Walkabout 2016. Walkabout is an annual health and wellbeing challenge from January 18 – March 20, where teams of five compete to cover the distance of a virtual route by keeping track of their steps. Registration is $10 per participant with proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

In 2016, Walkabout partners with Faculty of Education, Year of Alumni and UBC Recreation to encourage all community members (staff, faculty, students, alumni and the community) to walk a virtual journey to improve their wellbeing.

What is Walkabout?

Walkabout is an annual 9-week health and wellbeing challenge that promotes regular exercise in social settings. ‘Walkabout’ is named for the spiritual quest of the Aboriginal peoples from the outback in Australia’s Northern Territories. Designed and launched in 2005 by Dr. Joy Butler (Department of Curriculum & Pedagogy), the Walkabout challenge is held each spring in the Faculty of Education. Staff, faculty, students and community members create teams of five and compete to cover the distance of a new virtual route each year – everyone is welcome to join the challenge.
