For a second consecutive year, Wellbeing at UBC is looking to fund student initiatives which build healthier and more socially sustainable campus communities. Thanks to the support of the Office of the Vice President, Students, we will once again be disbursing a total of $25,000.
Last year, funding supported:
- 22 student-led projects
- 90 students
- 3 events: International Conference on Health Promoting Universities & Colleges, North American Life Cycle Assessment Conference, Transit & Health Symposium
- $15K in additional funding from partners
Amount
$25,000 total is available. Up to $10,000 may be allocated per application — small and large proposals are encouraged.
Eligibility
Student, staff and faculty units and associations on UBC Vancouver campus may apply for funding. UBC Okanagan students, staff and faculty may apply if they demonstrate matching or supplemental funding. Individual students who are interested in applying are encouraged to work with a student, staff, faculty unit to apply on their behalf.
Criteria
The disbursement committee will consider applications which demonstrate how the funds will:
- support student-led initiatives,
- achieve clearly outlined objectives,
- align with the principles and calls to action in the Okanagan Charter for Health Promoting Universities and Colleges,
- enhance existing UBC programs where possible, and
- leverage additional funding or partnerships (encouraged).
Initiatives may align with, but are not limited to, the following wellbeing-related action areas identified as priorities by our community: built & natural environments, food & nutrition, inclusion & connectivity, mental health & resilience, physical activity & sedentary behaviour.
Timeline
- Submit funding applications for phase 1 by Friday, December 18, 2015 (depending on application numbers, we may open a second phase in early January)
- Wellbeing at UBC Student Funds Disbursement Committee will communicate a decision before end of January, 2016.
Administration
Proposals that receive funds will be asked to submit a brief report outlining funding use and outcomes based on objectives (pictures encouraged).
Funds must be spent within one year of receiving funding. Any unused funds must be reported and returned.
The fund recipients are responsible for planning and implementation related to their project, and covering any cost overruns.
